On 7 and 8 of June 2016, Los Zares del Ballet project enjoyed smashing success in Mexico City and Leon, Mexico. Internationally acclaimed ballet stars Yulia Makhalina, Alexander Volchkov, Yelena Pankova and Anastasia Lomachenkova took part in the show staged by Mikhail Venshchikov. The program of the Gala Performance featured fragments from Le Corsair, Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Esmeralda, Carmen, as well as the Valpurgis Night choreographic fragment from Charles Gounod’s opera Faust.
The gem of the show was Pas de Quatre ballet to the music of Cesare Pugni, that was first staged by F. Taglioni in 1845 for the legendary ballerinas of the time, Maria Taglioni, Carlotta Grisi, Fanni Cerrito and Lucile Grahn. A. Dolin’s choreography (1941), selected for this concert, was brought back to life with utmost grace and elegance by the dancers from St. Petersburg Anna Sysoyeva, Yekaterina Gusarova, Anastasia Lomachenkova and Yelena Pankova.
The audience was bewitched by the sensational performance of the prima ballerina of Mariinsky Theater Yulia Makhalina (holder of the People’s Artist of Russia title) who excelled in the parts of Odette in the famous adagio from the Act 2 of Swan Lake, and of the enchanting Zobeide in the duet from N. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. When Y. Makhalina came on stage for Mikhail Fokin’s miniature The Swan to the music by Sen Sans, both audiences responded with endless ovation.
The performances were augmented by animated projections (designed by Victoria Zlotnikova) that revitalized the characters of the time-honored shows, creating the festive, magical atmosphere.
